Where is the serial number on a Whirlpool appliance?

Refrigerators

Open the fresh-food compartment. The label is most often on the left-hand interior wall, at around eye level or lower. Failing that, check the ceiling of the compartment near the front edge, and then the wall behind the crisper drawers — you will need to pull the drawers out.

On some side-by-side models it is on the inside face of the freezer door surround instead. On a few, it is behind the bottom kick plate at the front.

Washing machines and dryers

On a top-loading washer, lift the lid: the label is on the underside of the lid or on the rim of the tub opening. On a front loader, open the door and check the frame all the way around.

On a dryer, look inside the door opening first. If it is not there, pull out the lint filter and shine a torch into the slot — Whirlpool frequently puts the label just inside. The rear panel is the third place to check.

Dishwashers

Open the door. The label is on the edge of the door itself, usually along the left side or the top edge. It is never on the outer face, so if you are looking at the front of a closed dishwasher you are looking in the wrong place.

Ranges and ovens

Pull the bottom storage drawer all the way out and look at the frame behind it. If there is no drawer, look behind the kick plate. Alternatively, open the oven door and check the frame around the opening, particularly the left-hand side.

What you are looking for

A Whirlpool serial is typically ten characters beginning with two letters — MX06404786 is the shape. The model number is longer and usually begins with letters identifying the product line, such as WRS, WTW or WDT. Both are on the same plate.
