How Amana serial numbers work
Division letter, year character, two-digit production week, build sequence — the Whirlpool system.
For a 2006-or-later Amana, the format is Whirlpool's: a division letter, a year character, two digits giving the production week, and a build sequence. That gets you to the week, which is as precise as any American brand gets.
The brand's history is unusually tangled, and it matters here. Amana was founded as a refrigeration company, spent time under Raytheon, was sold to Goodman, then to Maytag in 2001, then to Whirlpool with the rest of Maytag in 2006. Each of those transitions had the potential to change how serials were assigned, and we have only been able to source the current system with confidence.
There is a second Amana to be careful about. Amana-branded furnaces, air conditioners and heat pumps are made by Daikin, which bought the HVAC side of Goodman. They are a different business from the kitchen and laundry appliances, and their serial numbers do not follow this format. If your Amana is a furnace, this is not the right tool.
If your Amana appliance predates 2006 and you know its real manufacture date — from an original receipt, an installation record or the manufacturer directly — telling us is genuinely useful. Several verified data points is what would let us build and publish a rule for the earlier eras.

Where to find the label on a Amana appliance
- Refrigerators: inside the fresh-food compartment on the side wall or ceiling.
- Washers and dryers: under the lid or around the door opening.
- Ranges: behind the storage drawer at the bottom.
Production-period caveats
- We only decode Amana appliances from 2006 onward. The brand passed through Raytheon, Goodman and Maytag ownership before that, and we have not found a table for the earlier formats that we are willing to publish.
- Amana-branded furnaces and air conditioners are made by Daikin, a different company from the appliance business, and are not covered here.
Why a lookup commonly fails
- The appliance predates 2006, in which case we deliberately return nothing rather than guess.
- An Amana HVAC serial was entered rather than a kitchen or laundry appliance serial.

Amana serial number questions
- Why does my Amana serial return no result?
- The most likely reason is that the appliance was built before 2006, which is outside the era our rule covers. The other possibilities are that the serial belongs to Amana HVAC equipment made by Daikin, or that a character was misread.
- Is Amana the same as Whirlpool now?
- Amana has been a Whirlpool Corporation brand since 2006 and shares the serial-number system, but it is positioned as a value line with its own models and its own service parts. Same date code, different appliances.
- My Amana furnace serial does not work here. Why?
- Amana-branded heating and cooling equipment is manufactured by Daikin, not by Whirlpool. It uses a different serial convention that we do not decode. Daikin's own support channels are the right place for that.
