Hotpoint serial number lookup
Look up a Hotpoint appliance
How Hotpoint serial numbers work
Identical to GE: first letter is the month, second is the year, drawn from the twelve letters A, D, F, G, H, L, M, R, S, T, V and Z.
For a North American Hotpoint, the code is GE's: the first letter is the month, the second is the year, both drawn from the twelve letters A, D, F, G, H, L, M, R, S, T, V and Z. Six digits follow, sometimes with a trailing letter that carries no date information.
Hotpoint in North America sits at the value end of the GE range, which means the appliances are frequently found in rentals, older housing stock and properties bought with the appliances already installed. That is exactly the situation where nobody has the receipt, and where a serial-number lookup is the only way in.
The twelve-year cycle applies here too. A Hotpoint serial beginning GV decodes to April of 2023, 2011, 1999 or 1987. Given how long basic Hotpoint ranges and refrigerators tend to stay in service, the older candidates are more plausible for this brand than they would be for a premium line — which is worth bearing in mind when you look at the ranking.
The label locations follow GE's conventions. On refrigerators, look inside the fresh-food compartment near the ceiling or on the side wall. On ranges, check behind the storage drawer at the bottom or on the frame behind the oven door.

Where to find the label on a Hotpoint appliance
- Refrigerators: inside the fresh-food compartment near the ceiling or on the side wall.
- Ranges: behind the storage drawer or on the oven door frame.
- Dishwashers: on the door edge with the door open.
Production-period caveats
- This is the single most important caveat for Hotpoint: the North American brand and the European brand are separate businesses. European Hotpoint sits within Whirlpool EMEA and does not use this code.
- The GE year letter repeats every twelve years, so expect a shortlist rather than one year.
Why a lookup commonly fails
- A European Hotpoint serial was entered. We return nothing rather than apply a rule that does not belong to it.
- A letter outside the twelve-letter GE set was entered.

Hotpoint serial number questions
- I have a Hotpoint washing machine bought in the UK. Why does it not work?
- Because it is a different manufacturer. UK and European Hotpoint appliances are made within Whirlpool EMEA, not by GE, and they do not use the GE date code. We have not sourced the European format, so we return nothing rather than apply a rule that does not belong to it.
- Is a Hotpoint appliance just a rebadged GE?
- In North America, Hotpoint is GE Appliances' value brand — built by the same company, sharing the serial system, but with simpler specifications and different components. Sharing a date code does not mean the parts interchange.
- How long do Hotpoint appliances last?
- The same typical ranges apply as for any brand in the category: roughly 10 to 15 years for a refrigerator, 13 to 15 for a range, 9 to 12 for a dishwasher. Value-line appliances often have fewer electronic components, which sometimes means fewer things to go wrong.
