Frigidaire serial number lookup

Frigidaire serials get you to the exact week of the year and then stop, because the decade is not written anywhere on the appliance.

Look up a Frigidaire appliance

Optional, but it lets us rule out formats that do not apply.

How Frigidaire serial numbers work

Position one is the plant, position two identifies the product category, position three is the last digit of the year, positions four and five are the week of that year, and the last five digits are the unit number.

A Frigidaire serial is ten characters, and each position does a specific job. The first is the plant. The second identifies the product category. The third is the last digit of the year. The fourth and fifth are the week of that year. The remaining five are an incremental unit number.

The product letter is a useful cross-check that most decoders ignore. A means refrigerator, B means freezer, D means dryer, F means range and H means dishwasher. If you tell us the appliance type and the product letter disagrees, we say so — because it usually means the serial was copied from a different appliance, or from a different label on the same one.

Because the decade is missing, a Frigidaire lookup returns a shortlist rather than an answer. A serial with a year digit of 8 fits 2018, 2008, 1998 and 1988. That is a genuine limitation of the format, and any tool that gives you a single confident year from a Frigidaire serial alone is not telling you the whole story.

Three things narrow it down reliably: the print date on the owner's manual, the model number's production era, and when you bought the appliance or moved into the property. The week and the year digit are solid — you are only ever guessing at one digit.

Example Frigidaire serial format

An example built from published documentation. We never use real customer serial numbers.

LA81503430

L is the plant, A identifies a refrigerator, 8 is the last digit of the year, 15 is the fifteenth week, and 03430 is the unit number. That is week 15 of a year ending in 8.

Where to find the label on a Frigidaire appliance

  • Refrigerators: inside the fresh-food compartment, often on the side wall near the crisper drawers.
  • Ranges: behind the storage drawer, or on the frame behind the oven door.
  • Dishwashers: on the door edge with the door open.
  • Washers and dryers: around the door opening or on the rear panel.

Production-period caveats

  • The decade genuinely is not encoded. The technical reference we rely on states plainly that the first digit of the year is not in the serial number or the model number.
  • This means a Frigidaire lookup returns a shortlist by design. The week and the last digit of the year are solid; only the decade is open.
  • The product letter is a useful cross-check: if it says refrigerator and you told us dishwasher, something is wrong.

Why a lookup commonly fails

  • Fewer or more than ten characters were entered — commonly because a space in the printed serial was treated as part of the number.
  • The serial came from an Electrolux-branded appliance sold outside North America.

Frigidaire serial number questions

Why can't you tell me the exact year of my Frigidaire?
Because Frigidaire does not encode it. The serial contains the last digit of the year and the week, but nothing that identifies the decade, and the model number does not carry it either. We show every decade that fits and explain how to narrow it down, which is the honest answer.
What does the second letter of a Frigidaire serial mean?
It identifies the product category. A is a refrigerator, B a freezer, D a dryer, F a range and H a dishwasher. Only part of the full table is published, so if your letter is not one of those we label it as a product code without claiming to know which category it means.
My Frigidaire serial is not ten characters. What is wrong?
Usually that a space in the printed serial was treated as part of the number, or that some characters were missed. The documented North American format is exactly ten. If yours is genuinely a different length, it may be an appliance sold outside North America, which uses different conventions.
Is Frigidaire the same as Electrolux?
Frigidaire has been part of Electrolux Major Appliances North America since 1986, and the two share this serial format. They are marketed as separate lines at different price points, but the date code is identical.
