Where is the serial number on a GE appliance?
Refrigerators
GE most often places the label on the ceiling of the fresh-food compartment near the front edge, which makes it one of the easier ones to find without emptying shelves. The interior side wall is the second place to check, and behind the crisper drawers the third.
Ranges and ovens
Open the oven door and look at the frame around the opening — GE frequently puts the label on the left-hand side of the frame. Otherwise, pull out the bottom storage drawer and check the frame behind it.
On wall ovens, the label is on the frame inside the door opening, or occasionally on the side of the cabinet cut-out where it can only be read once the oven is partially withdrawn.
Dishwashers
On the edge of the door with the door open, or on the inner tub wall just inside the opening.
Washers and dryers
Under the lid on a top loader, inside the door opening on a front loader or a dryer, or on the rear panel near the top.
Recognising a GE serial
GE serials are two letters, six digits, and often a trailing letter — FR123456 or AZ123456S. The two opening letters can only be A, D, F, G, H, L, M, R, S, T, V or Z. If you have read a B, C, E or anything else in either of the first two positions, look again: those letters are not part of the code, and B/D, C/G and E/F are the usual confusions.
