The label is normally inside the door opening, on the frame you can see when the door is open. If it is not there, check behind the lint filter housing — pull the filter out and look down into the slot with a torch. The rear panel is the third place to try.
Dryers are mechanically simple and tend to last as long as the washer they sit next to, typically 10 to 13 years. Heating elements, thermal fuses and belts are all inexpensive and straightforward for a technician to replace, which shifts the repair-versus-replace calculation towards repair further into a dryer's life than for most appliances.
Gas dryers are different. They involve a gas supply, a burner and a flue carrying combustion products, and any fault touching those is professional work. If you smell gas, stop using the appliance, ventilate the room and call a qualified engineer — do not attempt a diagnosis based on the appliance's age or anything else.
The other dryer-specific risk is lint. Restricted venting is a genuine fire hazard and also the most common cause of poor drying performance being mistaken for a failing appliance. Before concluding that an old dryer is finished, have the vent run checked.
